By Lynn Gerlach and Sheryl Lynn, authors of The Celebrated Woman
The
principles of celebration apply to men as well as to women. We
emphasize the need for women to celebrate however giving advice on how
to reach that goal, because a woman’s natural tendency is to celebrate
others and forget about self. Regardless of gender, though, the fully
celebrated life of woman or man bears certain qualities.
The
celebrated life is positive. Surrounded by negativity, a positive
individual moves forward, stepping around the worries and nay-sayers,
refusing to engage negative forces while merely acknowledging their
existence. The celebrated life is control-neutral. Some things go well;
others go awry. It is unnecessary either to comprehend every obstacle
or to change it or in any other way control it. A life of celebration
is marked by adjustment without stress, adaptation without resentment,
and acceptance without the need to control.
A celebrated
individual is a sovereign individual, queen or king of whatever piece
of earth is called home. That sovereignty comes from perfection, for
the fully celebrated person realizes that true perfection is just being
perfectly oneself. The celebrated life, then, is a life of
self-acceptance and self-love rather than of unfulfilled longings,
self-recrimination or self-criticism. A celebrated individual does not
require self-perfection but simply acknowledges that, to be truly ME is
simply perfect.
Celebrated individuals tend to surround
themselves with folks who uplift, inspire and encourage them. They get
the support of others because they expect it and know they deserve it.
It is easy, then, to celebrate others reciprocally, offering mutual
support and wishing the best for every other human being. The
celebrated woman or man is able to accept help, receive compliments,
and graciously take what others have to offer. They recognize
celebration in themselves and others and in all they see and do.
Positive, free from the need to control, sovereign and perfect, with
only best wishes for others, the celebrated individual is confident
that every answer, every directional sign, every solution, tool or
resource necessary for a perfect life lies within Self. The celebrated
woman or man recognizes the inner magnificence and personal power
required for a life of joy, and so does not seek answers or direction
from others. Celebrated individuals are confident that the source of
their positivity and strength lies within their own hearts. They feel
empowered to chart a course and correct it as necessary, all the while
standing in their own circle of celebration.
